PUCCA IS BACK?!?!?! | Love Recipe REVIEW!

My childhood consisted of a lot of awesome shows, hehe shout-out to Jetix over here supplying endless hours of entertainment to my little child brain or at least until mum told me to go to sleep. Anyways among those shows, the ones that I absolutely adored were Power Rangers, Totally Spies, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Pucca. I loved Pucca, not like a casual fan, like I LOVED this show. I love the characters, the design, the aesthetic of the show. Everything really. I remember one of the happiest days of my childhood was when I found out that McDonalds released Pucca toys in their Happy Meals. Fast forward to now, I’m scrolling on Twitter and I see someone tweet that a new Pucca show is on Netflix and my mind was half-ecstatic and half-doubtful so I go over to Netflix to check if it’s true and sure enough it is.

The Pucca team decided to revive the show with a third season titled Love Recipe. It’s animated in CG animation and apparently it’s been out since 2018!!! This will act as a first-impression of the third season. Pucca has never been a serious show, it doesn’t really have a over-arching story so I only checked out the first three episodes and I have to say it feels exactly the same. Love Recipe nails all of the elements which made the original series so loveable and unique while at the same time putting some twists into the formula. For instance, the CG animation which to be honest I wasn’t a fan of judging by the posters but watching the actual show is another thing. I love the animation in this show, it fits the world of Pucca incredibly well. It’s cute, quirky and modern but at the same time it keeps the visual aesthetic of the original show and everything. The end credits are incredibly cute and adorable and they really show off the aesthetic of the show quite well.

The same goes for the runtime, three 8-minutes episodes together to make a 24-minute long episode, just like the original show. However with Love Recipe the episodes seem to be connected as the story is split into three parts and there are some bits of continuity. I actually really like that change in story-telling, it’s there and it’s subtle but it doesn’t take away from the different adventures occuring in each long episode. The characters and humour are exactly the same as they were before. We see favourites like Garu, Pucca’s three father chefs, Ching, Abyo and his father the policeman. The humor is just as wacky, wholesome and cute as ever. It’s purely Pucca, that’s how I can really describe these new episodes. It feels like the show never left and it makes me incredibly happy that a show from my childhood comes back as good as it was back when I used to watch it.

If you are a fan of Pucca or even if you just casually watched back in the day, I definitely suggest you try this out or just give it a watch. It’s on Netflix, not a lot of people know about this and I really hope I can spread the word to the animation world about this.
