Xiaomi will reportedly launch the Mi Max successor, aka the Mi Max 2, in China on May 23. Although the Mi Max 2 is said to have the same 6.44-inch 1080p screen as the original Mi Max, it would see a significant overhaul in almost all the other departments.

Just like the Mi Max, the Mi Max 2 will also reportedly come in two options: one with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 with 4GB RAM and another with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 with 6GB of RAM inside. The phone would likely come with up to 128GB of internal memory and Android Nougat-based MIUI.

On the camera front, the Mi Max 2 will reportedly come with a 12-megapixel -- Sony IMX378 -- sensor on the rear and a 5-megapixel sensor on the front. It will reportedly be backed by a 5,000mAh battery and come with USB Type-C for charging and data syncing.

The original Mi Max is available in two processor variants: one with Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 and 3GB RAM and another with Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 and 4GB RAM. Prices start at Rs 14,999 and go all the way up to Rs 19,999.

Boasting of an all-metal body, the 6.44-inch Mi Max weighs in at 203 grams and measures just 7.55mm in thickness. The Mi Max belongs to a select niche of super-sized phones which is likely to attract buyers who are into considerable multimedia consumption, but don't want to shell out on tablets, that on most occasions lack voice calling.

It comes with up to 128GB of on-board memory which is further expandable via a micro-SD hybrid card slot. The dual-SIM (nano+micro) phone supports 4G LTE connectivity. There's no NFC though.

On the camera front, the Mi Max offers a 16-megapixel rear shooter with phase detection autofocus along with a 5-megapixel camera on the front.
