20th C Modern Art Movement
Influence on Graphic Design
This art movement consisted of various techniques in it's sector, such as Architecture, Art & Design. Apart from these, Graphic Design was an influence and therefore the Designer El Lissitzky took the role of Photomontage (Cut outs from magazines) & Bold Typography. Most of these Photomontages play a 'Juxtaposition', and this keyword is mostly named to the Artistic Movement - Surrealism. Constructivists use fine lines, geometric shapes, bold colours, type that is bold & understandable and that is what influenced today's Graphic Designers, today most of the designs are fine sketched with bold colours & type that is modern.
Above is a book about Constructivism, it's Designers & artists are found inside described as the most powerful artists at that time, that changed modernism & gave an advantage on Graphic Design. Although it gives an Architecture feel, there is also what is called - alignment & Precision, architecture & Graphic Design have common factors that combine the movement. El Lissitzky a (Graphic Designer) an artist had a passion about Typography, bold colours, alignment, cut outs and these factors are all found in Graphic Design. The book shows space or negative space but it is used appropriately, the alignment is neat as it supposed to be & there isn't much confusion going on just being simple & attractive.
This book sets to give away attraction. Attraction is made up of something that has power, potential, discipline - it all sums up to this book, a book about constructivism (Graphic Design). Elements being used relevant, such as the colour RED is giving away lots of attention & that is an icon for Constructivism, also the text is neatly aligned with the artwork + adding informative text beyond every subject or artwork to accompany the design. |
How is Architecture involved in Graphic Design ?
Supporting my information about the contrast between how architecture influence GD and how GD influence architecture. They share the same principles and the only difference is that one is digital wise & paper whilst the other touches with materials & after beginning of construction. Graphic Designers such as Federico, giving us an example of how architecture can be explained onto a visual communicative art board is by re-designing Tatlin's most famous : Monument of the third international and manipulating it by his own means of imagination, his technique. Apart from using architectural events, noticing that Federico used typography skills as well, he used the alphabet to support every name. The letter T for Tatlin - supported by his marvellous architectural skills is manipulated onto that building figure that forms the T. Even the letter T, evolves into construction - constructivism.
