James McCaffrey, Rescue Me Actor and Voice of Max Payne, Dead at 65

James McCaffrey, the actor who portrayed firefighter and 9/11 victim Jimmy Keefe on Rescue Me and provided the titular voice of the Max Payne video games, died Sunday at his home in Larchmont, N.Y. He was 65.

McCaffrey died after a battle with myeloma. The news was confirmed by his wife, actress Rochelle Boström, to The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to starring in 55 episodes of the FX dramedy Rescue Me, McCaffrey also starred in 1994’s Viper as expert driver Michael Payton/Joe Astor. He appeared in Seasons 1 and 4 of the action series. During that same time period, he played Capt. Arthur O’Byrne in the Fox crime series New York Undercover, appearing in seven episodes from 1994-1997.

In the Max Payne video games, he voiced the avenging former NYPD officer-turned-DEA agent whose wife and daughter were murdered by junkies. Those installments were released in 2001, 2003, 2008 and 2012.

His most recent TV credits include Blue Bloods, Bluff City Law, She’s Gotta Have It, Madam Secretary, Suits, Bull, The Following, White Collar, Revenge, The Glades and Jessica Jones.

On the film side of things, he starred in Broken English, The Truth About Cats and Dogs and American Splendor, among others.
