Travel + Leisure Editorial Guidelines Published on March 6, 2024 Trending Videos Close this video player Photo: THEPALMER/Getty Images March is perhaps the most exciting time to hit the mountains. It's when many ski destinations see the most snow, and when you may catch a few extra bluebird spring skiing days. But if you want to get out and enjoy the mountains one more time before the season ends, don't just hit any mountain. Go to the most picturesque mountains in America instead. To help people plan the perfect ski getaway, The Family Vacation Guide, a website dedicated to helping families plot top-notch trips, published its Family Ski Index. And while the entire index is worth a read if you're looking for the overall top ski areas in America, hiding in the data is also a peek at the most picturesque mountains. "We have ranked a segment of the overall study data, which looked at the number of Instagram posts per location," a spokesperson for the website shared with Travel + Leisure via email. It then ranked the destinations based on the number of mentions to create a list of the most photogenic locations. And it comes as little surprise to see that Park City, Utah, is No. 1. "Park City is crowned 2024's most Instagrammable U.S. ski resort with a total of 1.4 million Instagram posts," the findings concluded. "Nestled in Utah's scenic Wasatch Range, Park City stands as one of the premier ski destinations in the United States and is also the perfect ski destination to capture those magical Instagram shots." Following Park City is another gorgeous spot, Jackson Hole Resort in Wyoming. It came in at No. 2 with 1.1 million Instagram posts. "Named after the valley in which it is located, Jackson Hole is well known for its challenging slopes and stunning landscapes, the resort offers an extensive trail network accessible via multiple lifts, earning just over a million posts on Instagram," the website shared. And, at the number three spot, is Breckenridge Resort, Colorado, which racked up nearly 1 million posts. The Colorado resort also ranked as the website's No. 1 overall ski area thanks to its high number of runs and lifts and for being one of the most Googled ski resorts in the nation in 2023. Other spots to make the most picturesque list include Telluride, Colorado, and Truckee, California, rounding out the top five. They're followed by Crested Butte, Colorado; Killington, Vermont; Vail, Colorado; Ogden, Utah; and Durango, Colorado, in the 10th spot. And yes, these are all gorgeous destinations, but really, no matter where you go skiing, it will be a beautiful day. After all, you get to spend it shredding the mountains.
