Even today, Shiro Kuramata (1934–1999) remains a world-renowned and highly influential designer. His furniture and interior designs, which frequently made of acrylic and glass as well as metal building materials, have the power to transport the viewer. This exhibition, the first solo exhibition of Kuramata’s work to be held in Tokyo in over 20 years, spans the designer’s entire career and presents his dream journals and sketches, which provide context for his creations.

Setagaya Art Museum opened on March 30, 1986. It is known for its beautiful architecture, which is in harmony with the blessed natural environment of Kinuta Park. Taking advantage of the uniqueness of Setagaya City, where an unparalleled number of artists reside, the Center promotes surveys, research, and collecting of works by resident artists, and holds unique exhibitions. The Museum also introduces a wide range of artistic movements in modern and contemporary art, architecture, design, and other fields from its own unique perspective, while interacting with art museums in Japan and abroad.

In addition, the museum focuses on performance projects that provide creative opportunities for music, dance, and theater. In addition, the museum offers a wide variety of educational programs, including workshops for diverse age groups. The "Setagaya Art Museum Friendship Association" and numerous volunteers are active on a daily basis, and the museum continues to conduct community-based projects, such as collaborations with schools.
