After making it patently clear that she didn’t approve of her 81-year-old father’s 35-year-old fiancée, Tamara Ecclestone is taking it upon herself to find a suitable man for her mother.

“My sister, Petra, and I are already considering potential suitors for her,” says Tamara at the launch of Denise Rich’s Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation UK at Battersea Power Station.

Still, she makes the point that her mother is not quite so keen to throw herself back into the business of courting. “She’s taking some time for herself, it’s important to do,” she says.

Interested men will need to meet some very high standards in order to be deemed worthy of a date with Slavica Ecclestone.

Governor makes crime a priority

With the man who blinded him in one eye in a London cemetery still at large, George Fergusson, the newly installed Governor of Bermuda, is determined to stamp out crime on the island where he now presides.

Ironically, his mugging took place just after he had returned from a meeting with the West Midlands police to discuss initiatives targeting crime and particularly gang-related problems.

“Bermuda has been working on those themes, and has been comparing ideas with the West Midlands,” he says. “Maybe we can get to a point where Bermuda is having its ideas borrowed by some other places.”

Brown piles it on

It is no wonder Gordon Brown’s suit looked tight on him when he appeared at the Leveson Inquiry. Mandrake hears that the former prime minister long ago dispensed with his personal trainer.

He went for a single highly publicised jog while he was PM – his Nike trainers looking like they had seen little active service, even then – but these days he seldom ventures outdoors.

“He leads a very sedentary life, and, what with his wife Sarah’s home-cooking, together with his constant snacking, he’s inevitably put on quite a bit of weight,” whispers an acquaintance of the old ogre.
