Verner Panton was ahead of his time. The Danish designer reinterpreted furniture, creating chairs and luminaires in highly-expressive forms never seen before.
From 1950 to 1952, Panton worked for Danish architect and designer, Arne Jacobsen. But after working for his firm, Panton founded an independent studio in 1955. He then began thinking up fresh and new creations.
"He brought pop-art ideas into the furniture realm," Industrial Design professor, Volker Albus once related in an interview for DW News.
While he is best known for the Panton Chair, a design that Panton developed with Vitra in the 1960s (and later released in 1967), the designer also busied himself with lighting design.
Unlike his contemporaries who were working with classic materials during his time, Panton was experimenting with other colours, shapes, and light.
