The HP ProBook 4710s is a big-screen business desktop replacement that offers good performance for the price. The ProBook 4710s isn’t perfect, but its few shortcoming were made to keep the price as close to $1,000 as possible. And HP did not cut corners when it came to the most important attributes for a desktop replacement: The LED-backlit HD screen and the CPU, graphics processor, and generous amount of RAM, all of which make it an impressive performer for the price.

HP's ProBook offers value and comfort for business users. With austere styling and rugged build quality, the HP ProBook 4710s is aimed at the business market really. However, the extra rugged design makes it a great choice for clumsier students and home users, without compromising on features. While it lacks the full-on media credentials of the Acer or Sony's VAIO laptops, the HP ProBook 4710s remains a good choice for anyone who wants a machine as suited to a life on the road as it is in the home.

The HP ProBook 4710s is a well-configured desktop replacement that probably deserves some attention from medium business buyers. HP did a good job balancing the system specs such as processor, graphics and high-resolution screen with a modest price point. Bottom line, the HP ProBook 4710s, like the rest of the ProBook line, is a good notebook for its intended market. However, HP has some room for improvement if they want to turn this laptop into a deal that's too good to pass up.

For little more than a grand, this 17-inch notebook delivers good performance and battery life—not to mention a dose of style—for small business users. In the wake of HP’s excellent ProBook 4510s, a 15.6-inch budget notebook for small business users, comes its big brother, the 17.3-inch 4710s. For $1,099, this sleek desktop replacement will exceed your expectations; its performance and battery life are above average, making it a sterling choice for business users seeking a big-screen notebook. There are plenty of desktop replacement notebooks with more graphics power and overall performance than the HP ProBook 4710s. But, if you’re on a tight budget and need a big screen, this system provides plenty of speed and the features small business customers want at an affordable price.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330: Lower clocked Radeon 4530 with a current consumption of 7 Watt (according to AMD). Supports DirectX 10.1 and Avivo HD for HD video acceleration.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

Intel Core 2 Duo: This is the Core Duo and Core Solo successor with a longer pipeline and 5-20% more speed without more power consumption. As an addition to the Core Duo design there exists a fourth decoder, an amplified SSE-unit and an additional arithmetical logical unit (ALU).

The Core 2 Duo for laptops is identical to the desktop Core 2 Duo processors but the notebook-processors work with lower voltages (0.95 to 1188 Volt) and a lower Frontside bus clock (1066 vs 667 MHz). The performance of equally clocked notebooks is 20-25% lower than Desktop PCs because of the lower Frontside bus clock and the slower hard disks.

P8700:

Mid-range dual core processor with 3 MB level 3 cache and a TDP of 25 Watt.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

2.85 kg:

With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.

In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.

76.33%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
