Description
The Albino Golden Stripe Sucker is the albino variant of the Golden Stripe Sucker.
Golden Stripe Suckers, or more commonly known as the Common Pleco, is a type of suckermouth catfish that is popular in the hobby. They are native to South America and can be found in fast-flowing streams and rivers with a rocky substrate. When setting up the tank, a river set-up is and littered with driftwood and plants. Fast flowing water can also be added to give it a more natural feel.
Contrary to popular belief, Plecos DO NOT EAT FISH WASTE. Many people are also unaware of how large the fish grows (2 feet), and also its lifespan (10-15 years). Without consideration, this fish is either left in unfavourable conditions or set free in lakes or ponds. DO NOT RELEASE THIS FISH INTO THE WILD as they will multiply and become an invasive species. Provide large spaces and plenty of hiding spaces if you plan on keeping them. Plecos are nocturnal in nature, meaning they will be active at night but will hide and rest during the day. It is best to keep only one of them due to size constraints and their territorial nature.
They are omnivorous and will feed on anything that sinks to the bottom of the tank. Plecos are also algae eaters and will actively feed on algae that grow on woods, walls, and rocks. They should also be fed with a variety of sinking foods and protein such as bloodworms to keep them healthy. Fresh veggies and fruits can also be given like cucumbers and lettuce.
FUN FACT: Plecos are also known as the “Armoured Catfish” due to the bony plates that cover their body. This structure helps protect them from predators in the wild.
