The Palouse - 2024

June 23-27th

Come join me in the Palouse, an area known for its rolling hills of wheat and canola. The Palouse just happens to be my backyard, and very few people know the area as well as I!

Dates - June 23rd - 27th 2024

On this workshop we will be closely monitoring and evaluating weather patterns.  The weather will likely play a role in our locations for each sunrise and sunset.  The Itinerary is a tentative schedule and subject to change.

The Palouse is a special place, imagine Tuscany without the hoards of people. The towns are small and quaint and agriculture is king. The Palouse region is one of the most fertile areas in the world, and thanks to the Missoula floods at the end of the last ice age, the rolling hills are a photographers play ground. I grew up in the small town of Dayton, and spent my days exploring the backroads. As a result I know this area like the back of my hand. This workshop will start in Dayton, exploring the surrounding areas that are often over looked by other photographers, and then move to the Colfax region close to the beautiful and famous views from Steptoe Butte.

Each morning we will be waking up early for sunrise where we will be photographing Rustic farmsteads, Lone trees, and rolling hills of grain catching the light and casting beautiful shadows. Take a short nap during the harsh light of midday, then head back out and photograph the dancing light and shadow again.

Group Size

This will be a very small close knit group.  In the Past I have ran these workshops with 9 or more people, but I am now limiting this workshop to only 7 participants. So we will have plenty of elbow room at our locations, and you will have as much “Nick Feedback Time” as you want.

Cost - $2299

Included

  • Guiding and local knowledge

  • Small group size - 7

  • post processing instruction

  • in the field instruction, help with composition and shooting with post processing in mind

  • snacks and drink while on location, snacks will be simple, but enough to get us through long shooting hours

Not included

  • travel to and from Eastern WA

  • transportation ( we will be carpooling during this workshop, to keep our group efficient and nimble)

  • Lodging (Rooms have been reserved for us in both Dayton and Colfax)

  • Meals

Hiking difficulty

A lot of the workshops I lead require hiking, but one of the nice parts of a Palouse workshop is the ease of the locations, most times we wont need to hike far from the car at all, unless you want to find the perfect angle on a scene. For that reason this is a very easy workshop in regards to physical requirements.
