NGC-certified Alexander the Great Gold Coin Featured in Roma Numismatics Sale

The September auction offers a variety of coins graded by NGC Ancients, highlighting a variety of ancient powers.

A stunning gold coin from the ancient Kingdom of Macedon is one of the top offerings certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) in a sale presented by Roma Numismatics Ltd. Dated during or shortly after the reign of Alexander the Great, this coin is among a variety of stunning rarities from some of the well-known civilizations of the ancient world. Online bidding for Auction XXV is already underway, with the sale ending September 21-22, 2022.

On the obverse,the Kingdom of Macedon Alexander III Gold Distater features the Greek goddesses Athena, who was known to be the patron of wisdom and war. The reverse shows the full figure of Nike, the goddess of victory. Graded NGC Ancients XF, 5/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface, this coin (lot 270) has an estimate of £30,000 (about $35,400).

  • a Roman Empire Trajan Decius, A.D. 249-251 Gold Aureus graded NGC Ancients MS, 5/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface (lot 1059), which has an estimate of £10,000 (about $11,700)
  • a Roman Empire Vitellius, A.D. 69 Gold Aureus graded NGC Ancients VF, 5/5 Strike and 2/5 Surface (lot 973), which has an estimate of £7,500 (about $8,800)
  • a Roman Empire Gordian III, A.D. 238-244 Gold Aureus graded NGC Ancients, 5/5 Strike and 4/5 Surface and pedigreed to The Paramount Collection (lot 1056), which has an estimate of £6,500 (about $7,600)
