International Thalassemia Day is officially one week away, and alongside Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF) and others within the #thalassemia community, we're proud to support and help raise awareness for those affected by this #blooddisorder. This year's theme is ”Empowering Lives, Embracing Progress: Equitable and Accessible Thalassaemia Treatment for All.” There are no currently approved therapies for alpha-thalassemia and limited options for beta-thalassemia. We're aiming to change that through our scientific research and close connections to patients, HCPs and others. Did you know that individuals with #pyruvatekinasedeficiency (PKD) rely on frequent blood transfusions from birth? April 30th signifies the 120th day of the year, highlighting the lifespan of a healthy #redbloodcell (120 days) and the rapid rate at which bone marrow produces them (~120 million per minute).
