Education:
Meurice attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Tournai. The artist lives and works in Paris.
From 1960 to 1970, Jean Michel Meurice reflects on the different ways of painting, on the use of materials and on the organization of the surface of the canvas. Meurice uses all kinds of materials, his surfaces are completely covered with traces, paint, splashes, stripes, ruler lines, inks, colors and scratches. Meurice wants to show the intensity of the colours. In his later work in the 1980s, he begins to apply Matisse's decorative motifs in his landscapes. These appear in various shapes, oval formats, crosses, or tondos.
In the period '62 - '65 Meurice works for various magazines, including Telerama, Cahiers du Cinema and Le Nouvel Observateur. His work is related to the Support / Surface movement. At the same time, Meurice works on documentaries for television, mainly aimed at artists. Meurice is one of the founders of the Arte TV channel. Together with Fabrizio Calvi, Meurice is the maker of the documentary Black finance. In this documentary, Jean Michel Meurice analyzes the mechanisms that have led to the current economic crisis.
