John Stamos Still Has the ‘Full House’ Couch in His Home

Watch him reflect on his life, career, and new memoir here.

Everywhere you look, John Stamos has keepsakes from his time on Full House. In a new interview with InStyle, the actor opens up about the popular '90s sitcom while revealing that he owns one very famous prop from the set.

Stamos opens up about his upcoming memoir If You Would Have Told Me: A Memoir, out Oct. 4, while sitting on the beloved blue-and-white checkered Full House couch, a centerpiece in character Danny Tanner's (played by Bob Saget) living room.

"I was always joke, 'I'm going to be 72 next week,' but I'm getting close to that. Not to bum everyone out. I'm sitting on the Full House couch — that should make up [for it]," he jokes.

Stamos also discusses the series's impact on his life, saying he finally understood the meaning of the show after writing his book.

"I said that I sort of got Full House over the years, 'Oh, I get it now, I'm at peace with it,'" he says. "But, I really wasn't until I wrote the book. Writing the book is what really made me realize how important the show was to people and, ultimately, how important it became in my life."

Stamos wrote two chapters about his time on Full House, though one is mostly about his good friend, the late Bob Saget.

"The first one was mainly about Bob, and we just had such different ways of working and living," he explains. "But then just writing that second chapter of what the show means to people and what it ultimately meant to me. It wasn't a show about one character. It was a show about love. These critics thought it was so sappy, and I get it. I agree with you. It was sappy in places, but what you don't get is what was underneath it all. You put the brain aside for a minute to let the heart come up."

As an avid collector, Stamos has many mementos scattered around his house. He has even collected some Elvis Presley items, including the King of Rock and Roll's sunglasses. In addition to the couch, he also displays one of Saget's guitars in his home. "This is Bob's guitar," he explains. "I try not to play it 'cause all you could play are dirty songs."
