After receiving criticism on a recent Instagram post, Eva Mendes shot down suggestions that she's had "work done."

Last month, Mendes revealed on Instagram that she would be taking some time away from social media to focus on the two daughters she shares with Ryan Gosling: six-year-old Esmeralda Amada Gosling and four-year-old Amada Lee Gosling. Over the weekend, however, the Hitch star returned to the platform to celebrate a friend's birthday, and that is when a less-than-complimentary comment was posted.

As noted by People, one commenter asked, "Why you post on insta... so less????" In response, another commenter wrote, "She's had work done and I don't think she's happy with it..🤷‍♀️ she was beautiful without."

Luckily, Mendes wasn't about to rest on her laurels, and responded, "Hi. I'm actually taking time to really be present with my family so posting is not really a priority right now. Hoping you and yours are well."

Mendes continued …

"mmmm. I'm not sure why I'm answering you but here I go. I'm posting less because I really want to be present for my family. My little ones need me and posting takes up too much time. As far as getting work done, I'll do that whenever I please. But no, that's not the reason. The reason is I personally cannot juggle family and social media. So -big shocker -I choose family. Lotsa love to you out there."

The exchange turned out pleasantly in the end, with another commenter praising Mendes's decision. After all, when you're raising children with Gosling, who can blame you for choosing family over social media?

"Thanks for getting it," Mendes wrote. "Some people can juggle both and that's great but I can't. Anyway speaking of not be able to juggle both, need to go be with them now. They're in the other room and being too quiet. That's never good. Ha! ❤️‼️"
