Some guitar accessories achieve legendary status thanks to the famous guitarists who have used them. The Fulltone Clyde standard wah guitar effect pedal is just such a device. Originally appearing around 1967, the Clyde pedal was photographed among the studio gear of Jimi Hendrix while recording "Electric Ladyland." You can own this reissue of the original deluxe wah pedal that was prized by legendary guitarists such as Jimi and Eric Clapton.The Fulltone Clyde McCoy wah accessory can offer effects that are familiar to anyone who has heard big band trumpet player Clyde McCoy's legendary wah wah sound. The musician was famous for using a mute with his trumpet to create a distinct tone. Vox successfully duplicated this tone in their wahs. The team at Fulltone has managed to authentically recreate the original Vox model. These pedals can let you inject your electric guitars with a vintage sound that calls to mind the best of the best guitarists. The key to its unique sonic effect lies with a handmade, tuned core inductor. This can provide wiring and inductance that mimics the type of design used by the Vox accessories that were popular in the 1960s. You can control the bass and gain of your guitars like a pro thanks to the pedal's internal resonance control. True to the design of the original McCoy, bass and gain may be adjusted by hand via a durable trimmer located on the side. This can give you plenty of freedom to dial up a custom vibe for your music.Premium components were used to build this Clyde deluxe wah device. These include the Fulltone 500mH inductor that is hand wound and MU Metal shielded. This is one of the quietest inductors used in pedals today. It can greatly reduce extra noise when this device is connected to an amp. It is so quiet, it can even be used with acoustic guitars that have electronics. This can be of great benefit if you are using the effect in a studio setting or with recording software. Another component used here is the Fulltone-1 Wah Pot that can offer incredible durability, precision, and length of life. The brand went all out in the development of this reissue, beginning with assembling a collection of 25 vintage wah units for study.This pedal also makes use of a custom Fulltone potentiometer known as the full range pot. It has a double screened carbon composition track that has an amazing 500,000 turn life span. The industry standard is just 15,000 turns.Fulltone also upgraded the housing on the Clyde model to give it more tonal sweep and potentiometer range. The tension of the treadle can be tweaked until you get it right in line with your personal preference. The pedal itself is custom made of 14 gauge welded steel with nylon pivot points. This permits the pedal to travel a great deal farther than the original treadle. This device can be easy to master and simple to connect to your amps. It can provide a special tone that can produce a lot of nostalgic feelings in your audience.

If possible, try before you buy, which you can't always do with Ebay.
I bought the Fulltone Clyde Standard Wah through the recommendation of Robin Trower. It's what he uses. I don't have much experience with wah-wah pedals, having only owned one other, however, so far, I am not totally impressed with the Clyde. The main reason is the fact that the pot is very crackly in the treble zone. Maybe it just needs to be cleaned, or maybe that's the way all wahs are, because my other wah pedal is crackly in the treble zone also. Other than that, I think this particular pedal is overrated and over priced. It may be made in the USA, but that doesn't mean it's all that great. I would rate this pedal as average. Three stars max.

Get rid of the crackle
If you're having trouble with "crackling", just try a little PB Blaster into the pot where the shaft enters. Move the treadle back and forth for a bit and then let it sit. PB Blaster works wonders. If not available, try WD40.

This is an amazing pedal. I bought it to replace my vox wah. Turns out I really love the fulltone pedal wah pedal I have used. Great when paired with a fuzz pedal, thanks to the buffer level knob.
