Vintage blue Bukhara oriental hand-woven rug by Ikea, Pakistan 1960

This hand-woven Oriental rug was made in Pakistan in the 1960s for Ikea. It is traditionally flat woven and dyed in shades of navy blue and beige. It was woven with natural wool and cotton. With proper treatment, the wool has a beautiful sheen. The density of the knots is high, which makes the carpet durable. Nowadays, Bukhara carpets are considered as one of the best carpets made in Pakistan. The carpet is decorated with repetitive geometric patterns. The hand-woven carpets are made using techniques that give the pieces structural integrity.
