As the Japan Dolphin Day  approaches  so does the herding and slaughter season which  starts on Sept. 1, 2016. The dolphins are hunted and driven into the killing cove by the Fishermen's Union of Taiji, using banger boats to steer them. Once in "The Cove" a net is drawn behind them and a few of them if they are nice specimens they are taken into captivity, those that are not selected, are systematically slaughtered. The blood-stained sea and panicked screams of the dying dolphins will no longer continue to fall on deaf ears, as animal advocates worldwide will make sure that their cries are heard.

The dead dolphins are then taken via skiffs to the butcher house. The meat is sold to the citizens of Japan fraudulently  labelled as "whale" and served as lunch to children in school. At noon time a siren starts to bellow, and the citizens of Taiji know that there is fresh meat. Dolphin and whale meat is highly toxic. It contains high levels of the heavy metal, Mercury which has already produced 2 major outbreaks of Minamata disease and causes mental retardation.

This is the largest  dolphin slaughter in the world and unfortunately, very few people know it even takes place. Even in Japan, not many people are aware that this atrocity occurs.

The Taiji dolphin hunts continue because the fishermen make immense profits from selling some of their victims to the captive dolphin industry. Government officials also allow the hunt because they consider the dolphins to be pests that eat and deplete the fish stocks around Taiji. Dolphin Base Resort & Taiji Whale Museum houses all the captive Dolphins and they are held in sea pens or concrete pools. Training starts immediately as food is withheld from them until they start to cooperate or they starve to death.

Every year around the beginning of September, there will be a global event to bring awareness to the plight of the dolphin.

It is up to everyone, especially travelers visiting Japan, to spread the word. THE TIME HAS COME FOR THE WORLD TO STOP BEING SILENT AND TAKE A STAND!!
