Girls
Hannah Ortiz, Summit track and field: At the Sisters Invitational on April 6, Ortiz set personal records in both the long jump and the triple jump. The senior’s leap of 17 feet, 1½ inches in the long jump and 34-0½ in the triple jump are top marks in the Intermountain Conference and the second-best marks in the state.
Cadence Kennedy, Mountain View softball: The Cougars’ freshman shortstop tallied seven hits, scored four runs and drove in nine runs in Mountain View’s 15-0 wins over Madras and Parkrose last week. Kennedy is batting .538 on the season, has yet to commit an error in the field and leads the team in home runs and RBIs.
Renee Johnson, Culver track and field: The senior hurdler won both the 100-meter hurdles (17.01 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (50.04) at Caldera High on April 3.
Those times rank in the top four 2A times this spring, and her 100 hurdles time is the state’s fastest in 2A.
Boys
Trent Reese, Culver track and field: In two track meets last week, Reese had two wins and two second-place finishes in the sprints. At Caldera High on April 3, Reese won the 100 (11.50) and finished second in the 200 (22.91). Then at the Sandy Invitational on April 6, Reese won the 200 (22.56) and finished second in the 100 (11.22). His time in the 200 is the fastest 2A time thus far this season.
Joseph Teixeira, Redmond baseball: In three games last week, the senior third baseman collected three hits and drove in four runs. On the mound, he pitched six innings and struck out three in the Panthers’ 4-3 loss to Pendleton on April 6.
Jakob Hansen, Summit golf: At Juniper Golf Club on April 3, Hansen tied for the lowest score at the Ridgeview Invitational with a 4-over-par 72. The senior lefty finished with three birdies and nine pars during the 18-hole tournament
Grayson Moore, Mountain View golf: Moore tied Hansen for the low score of 72 at the Ridgeview Invitational on April 3. The junior birdied two holes and parred six holes on the back-9 at Juniper Golf Club.
