If you, like us, are entering your third month of home-bound isolation, you may be itching for an escape. This week, you can armchair travel with the help of AD Visits, our Instagram series that just dropped its fourth episode. While the show, hosted each week by AD editor in chief Amy Astley, has previously traveled to notable estates across California, this week it takes viewers on a far-flung journey to the French countryside and the heart of Mexico City with expert tour guides Philippe Starck and Rodman Primack.

First, architect and designer Philippe Starck shows us the rustic French cabin where he has been spending his time in quarantine. The minimalist home is made up of not much more than wood and glass—but this edited space seems to be the perfect backdrop for the prolific creative to get, well, creative. “It’s been years and years since I’ve had time like this…without travel, without jet lag, without interviews,” Starck says in the video in his native French. “I work 18 hours each day.” The designer reveals the cluttered workspace where he’s been toiling away, which turns out to be located in the cabin’s bedroom. His vacation home seems to be multitasking just as much as the designer himself.

Next, the episode takes viewers to the colorful Mexico City pad of AD100 designer Rodman Primack. As he walks us through some of the apartment’s show-stopping highlights—plush Afra and Tobia Scarpa chairs among them—he eventually lands on the dining table and chairs. Lanza Atelier designed the custom pieces so that the tucked-in chairs would be flush with the table’s curved surface. Primack, who has converted this table into his work-from-home desk, has surely never appreciated the table’s design ingenuity more than he does right now.

In the spirit of aesthetic adventures, AD Visits concludes with a conversation between AD’s West Coast editor, Mayer Rus, and stylist extraordinaire Michael Reynolds. While Reynolds, who often styles the homes that appear in the pages of Architectural Digest, may be based in New York, his personal design collection has a global bent. “His tastes run high, low, North, South, East, West,” Rus says in the video. After Reynolds reveals some of his favorite curios, the duo chats about the art of styling. “Bring a few really interesting pieces together and you cannot go wrong,” the stylist advises. “You should be styling with ingredients you love and are passionate about, and if you do that, it’s going to be interesting. Because then it says something about you.” Our take? If there were ever a moment to rearrange your prized possessions, now would be the time.

Tune into AD Visits next Monday for more design inspiration.
