Very Good Bio-filter Material

Very Good Bio-filter Material
I just set up a new tank and I'm using this in my hang-behind canister as a bio-filter for the first time. I like it allot. It has a texture that should be advantageous to bacteria growth - some of the best I have seen. Being completely round and as porus as they are, there should be maximum contact and growth with the water. The tank is fishless cycling and the ammonia digestion has really taken off: The tank is completely consuming 4ppm of dissolved ammonium chloride per day and I attribute this to the Eheim Substrat.Eheim products are generally expensive here in the US, many of them are over-engineered, and that often makes them subject to less than stellar performance, but this I believe they hit the nail right on the head. How much to use?As much as you can get in.Hope this helps.

Finally started replacing identical media from my ehiem canister filter after 2 years of use. It works very well though each time I would clean the filter, I noticed that the little balls would disintegrate a bit and there was always tiny bits at the bottom of my filter. It was never an excessive amount so I'm fine it with it as long as the fine filter pads can continue preventing the particles from going into the impeller. Aside from this, my 55 gallon freshwater remains stable thanks to the robust bacteria colony living within the media.

Works as advertised

I have used this in two different canisters as well as using it to seed the submersible filter in my second-hand Fluval accent setup. It seems to work great. I never see any ammonia or nitrites and even overloading and over-feeding only make the nitrates climb faster. I can't say for sure that it beats out ceramic rings or cylinders, but it does the job very well. I recommend using a mesh bag or two to hold the load and make for easy rinsing. Substrat Pro is somewhat small and light so it gets away from you easily during maintenance.

I'm impressed with this media. Its a tad bit pricey for my taste but it does work quite well. I can't say much more as there isn't much to it. Simply put it in your filter and let the beneficial bacteria grow. I will say that it seems to be holding up and hasn't crumbled when I do my filter cleaning.

These media are great, my water chemistry have always been stable ever since I started using these, can't complain, they will probably last the life of my aquarium, they do not disintegrate, will buy this again in the future if needed and definitelyhighly recommended

This is like installing a turbo on your tank.
Once placed, you've basically put aquatic crack in your water column.
Highly recommend this German engineering.
