Whistle-blower Risks Deportation

Swedish Radio News reports that a community radio reporter here who helped reveal how a Canadian-Iranian journalist was tortured to death in Iran, now risks being deported to Tehran.

Earlier this year reporter Rabi Nikoo interviewed an Iranian doctor who described the fate of the Canadian journalist, who had photographed a student demonstration in Iran.

After the story brought international attention, the doctor was given political asylum and protection in Canada. But the Swedish immigration authorities have rejected Rabi Nikoo’s application for refuge here, arguing that his political activities have not been extensive enough to provoke retaliation in Iran.

Speaking the Swedish Radio News, Rabi Nikoo says that he is convinced that his role in revealing the fate of the murdered Canadian journalist will lead to his receiving similar treatment by the Iranian authorities.
