Reporting a cheating player using Steam.

If you've been playing the game and were recently harassed by a cheater, immediately, after the incident, press [Shift] + [Tab]. This will bring you to the Steam Overlay browser.

Once you have access to the Steam Overlay browser (as shown above), select the option [View Players] located in the Friends Menu.

A "Recent Games" pop-up box will appear and a list of the Steam users you recently played a game with will be displayed in order by the most recent time played (see below). The most recent player displayed is the person you last played a game with, select the option to see the player's 'Profile' (also see below). Be sure to select the [Players] tab in the pop-up box so that it appears in a similar manner as seen below.

If you wish to report a cheater and and are having issues with using the Steam Overlay browser press [Alt] + [Tab] instead. The process will be similar, but the options will be located in different places. Using [Alt] + [Tab] will give you direct access to Steam.

You will have several options in the Steam task pane, at the very top of the screen, they are Steam, View, Friends, Game and Help. You want to select the 'View' option (see below). After having 'View' selected, scroll down and select the option 'Players'.

Once you are certain that you're viewing the cheater who harassed you in the 'Players' pop-up box and have selected to view this players Profile; go to the far-right of the Profile below the Player's "Level". Below the Player's "Level" is an option labeled [More] - Select [More]. A drop-down menu will appear, select the option 'Report Violation' (see below).

Finally, a 'Report Violation' pop-up box will appear. Select the option or violation you wish to report (i.e. Harassment/ Suspected Cheater) and then type a brief description of the details describing the incident (see below).

[Submit Report].

Be sure to close out the "Recent Games" pop-up box once you are done. It does NOT update itself if you don't and this might create confusion when reporting cheaters who harass you.

Namco Bandai Entertainment's official PC, report cheating policy.

Though this information was dated back in June/23/2014 [by chaos], it is still somewhat true regarding Dark Souls II: SoTFS. There are more methods that can be used to report cheating, but this method is one of several that every player should know about.
Reporting a cheating player to Namco Bandai Entertainment.
Important Notice: To report a cheater/ hacker to the From Software online server team, there are a few more steps you must take. This method is for more advanced players and is not recommended for everyone to use. This method is also used to enforce permanent bans, and should only be used against hackers who use spiteful, malicious and hateful cheats.

Also keep in mind, the level of malice can only be measured from person to person. Making a player waste items, breaking player equipment and causing a player to lose Ranking in a covenant can all be considered malicious acts if harassing cheats were involved.

The first thing you will need to get started right away is some ‘High-Definition (HD)’ recoding equipment. All submissions of cheating evidence must be as crisp and clear as possible. In addition, the recording equipment MUST be able to record gameplay, the Steam Overlay Browser, any desktop activity and any pop-up/ dialogue boxes that are used when collecting evidence of cheating in-game. When finished, submit all evidence to the following email address support@bandainamcogames.com.

Rules of engagement:
When recording an incident of in-game cheating, you must be sure to capture all of the following bits of ‘proof’ for the submission to be considered legitimate.
A.) The cheating players Character Name or Gamer Tag must be clearly visible (see examples below).

B.) The EULA violation or incident of cheating recorded in High-Definition (HD); such as a player being hit and not taking damage, swinging a heavy weapon around indefinitely, healing back to full health with no explanation, intentional lagging, etc. must be captured.

C.) Without any cuts to video footage and a constant source of streaming, a reporting player must record themselves using the Steam ‘Report Violation’ function all on record; this should include the cheating player’s profile, the steps included in reporting the incident, and lastly submitting the report to Steam. DO NOT SHARE ANY VIDEO RECORDING FOOTAGE ON THE STEAM FORUMS CONCERNING THIS MATTER!

D.) Finally, the reported incident MUST contain a total of ‘three’ or more links. The three essential links that MUST be presented, along with the recorded evidence are, 1.) a link to the video evidence to the From Software online server team for review, 2.) a link to the violating players profile who broke the EULA agreement. 3.) Lastly, a link to your own personal profile (the player reporting the incident). Your submission(s) should appear as shown below.

When sending your email submission to the From Software online Server Team, be sure that it looks similar to what is displayed above and contains all the essential items listed for a complete review. Any further evidence should be submitted ONLY after the essential pieces-of-proof have been issued first!

For more information on the policy involved in contacting Namco Bandai Entertainment (and for the best results), please review the official knowledge base information below.

Only hackers who invade are bad. I edited my save on the Xbox 360 version of DS1 but never invaded with that save.
