Description
The summer bolete is very similar in appearance to the famous Cep (Boletus edulis), but it differs from it by its "swollen" stem and the absence of a white edge around the cap rim. As its name implies, the summer bolete occurs during the summer months, after very hot and humid weather.

The summer bolete is primarily found in deciduous forests where it's usually closely associated with beech, but occasionally occurs with oak and spruce. It is always found near the roots of trees, where it lives in a symbiotic relationship in which the tree and the fungus feed each other essential nutrients.

The summer bolete is a highly sought-after, choice edible species that is very similar in taste and texture to its more famous cousin, the King Bolete (Boletus edulis). Like the King Bolete, the summer bolete should be cooked before its eaten.
