Steven Tyler: Being There for the Birth of My Grandson 'Was a Moment of a Lifetime'

"When I got the call I immediately dropped everything and went to the airport to get on the next available flight," the Aerosmith frontman told PEOPLE

When Steven Tyler got word that his daughter Liv had gone into labor over a month ahead of schedule, he hopped on a plane to race to her side.

“When I got the call that Liv was going into labor, after crying like a baby myself, I immediately dropped everything and went to the airport to get on the next available flight,” the Aerosmith frontman, 66, told PEOPLE Friday in a statement later posted to his Facebook page.

Still, the rockstar grandfather cut it pretty close — but ended up making it just in time!

“When I landed I kept calling my daughter Mia, who was already helping Liv, and she kept giving me minute-by-minute updates… ‘HURRY THE BABY IS COMING!’ ” Tyler writes. “I made it RIGHT in time before my second grandson entered this world. It was another (God wink) moment of a lifetime for me.”

Adds Mia, “There is nothing more special than helping to bring a life into this world with the most important people in your life. So proud to be a part of it. And so very excited to have a new pup in our wolf pack. So much love in this pic.”

Liv, 37, and her boyfriend — sports manager and agent David Gardner — welcomed another boy on Wednesday, PEOPLE confirmed exclusively with a rep for The Leftovers actress. “He’s healthy, and everyone is very happy,” the a rep said at the time. Their new son arrived six weeks early, a source added.

This latest addition to their brood joins older older brothers Milo, 10, and Gray, 7, the couple’s children from previous marriages.
