From Latin Thrācia, from Ancient Greek Θρᾴκη (Thrā́ikē), from Θρᾷξ (Thrâix, “Thracian”), from base of θράσσω (thrássō, “to trouble, stir”) and -ιξ (-ix) (compare Φοῖνιξ (Phoînix, “Phoenician”) and Κίλιξ (Kílix, “Cilician”)).
