The Gates of the Arctic watch displays daytime from 6 am to 6 pm with a north star pointing to the hours and a moon for the hours between 6 pm and 6 am representing the limited amounts of daylight during winter in Alaska. Each hour is denoted by a white star/dot in the night sky. The minutes are shown inside the mountain peak. And when the lights go out, the luminescent northern lights begin to glow.

Not Thrilled

After months of seeing Facebook ads, I bit and ordered the Gates of the Artic watch. I enjoy the odd way of telling time. Once you get the hang of it, it's like knowing a foreign language. The watch looks cool in broad daylight, except for the band that is cheap looking and scratchy.

I regret buying this watch because it is absolutely impossible to see unless you're in broad daylight. In full light, yes, it's cool. Anything less - completely useless. I am young and have good eyesight.

Furthermore, the northern lights do not actually glow. I contacted customer support, thinking I had a dud but they basically said as much and sent a link to a video about literally using trick photography in the ads. What the? They said if you shine your phone flashlight directly on it you may get 10 minutes of glow. That's not what I expected for $250.

I never would have bought this had I seen it in person beforehand. Very disappointing. For the price there should be an option to have something light up in the dark, even if manually. This watch is basically useless unless you're outside at noon on a clear day.

Beautiful Watch

I absolutely love this watch, the design is phenomenal, and functions perfectly. I haven't gotten it to glow in the dark at night but I love it all the same. Much prefer having an art piece for a watch over a plain old thing.
Don't think I could go back to ordinary watches after this.

Beautiful

I LOVE my watch, I have small wrists but it looks good with my outfits and doesn't feel like it overpowers me.
Once you take the time to learn to read it, its quite easy.

I think the glow in the dark is also a bonus!

Great design

Watch has a great design but is rather complicated to read. This is probably the most complicated amongst all the designs. But I’d say, it has the most beautiful design.

Great watch

The watch is beautiful. However it does take time to get used to what hour it is and if it’s not bright it’s hard to see the minutes. But it is amazing!
