Thereโ€™s nothing as relatable and universal as love. From music to K-dramas, itโ€™s the ubiquitous topic both artist and audience gravitate towards. So if youโ€™re getting into anything new, like anime perhaps, then stories of romance might be a good starting point for you. Granted, thereโ€™s still a lot of titles to sift through, so we narrowed it down to six of the best streamable shows in the genre.

6 Romance Anime Series to Watch on Netflix:

1. From Me to You: Kimi ni Todoke

Letโ€™s start with all the cliches you could want. Endless pining, miscommunication, friends to lovers, this anime has it all. That said, itโ€™s a sweet and tender (at times comedic) story that follows Sawako Kuronuma, an introverted 15-year-old high school student shunned by her classmates for appearing like the scary Sadako from the Japanese horror film The Ring. This all changes when her popular classmate, Kazehaya, publicly befriends her, much to everyoneโ€™s surprise. Soon, the two strike up a friendship that blossoms into, well, something more.

2. Bloom Into You

If you want something thatโ€™s a little more complicated but still takes you through that sweet satisfying slow burn, then donโ€™t miss Bloom Into You. Yuu Koito has always dreamed of living out the typical heart fluttering moment of getting a romantic confession from a boy. When this finally happens and she feels nothing, she looks to their beautiful student council president, Touko Nanami for help, thinking theyโ€™re in the same boat. But when Touko admits her own feelings for Yuu, the latter is unsure how to respond, all the while allowing Toukoโ€™s feelings for her to run its course.

3. Horimiya

We just donโ€™t know what it is about the popular kid falling for the reclusive loner trope that has us constantly tuning in. If youโ€™re just like us, Horimiyaโ€™s another anime to put on your watch list. Beautiful and beloved in her high school, Kyoko Hori desperately hides the fact that sheโ€™s really a homebody who likes to dress down and take care of her younger brother, Souta. When he comes home one day with a nosebleed, heโ€™s accompanied by a young man with tattoos and piercings, whom Hori recognizes as Izumi Miyamura, the gloomy and quiet boy from her school. Exposed to each otherโ€™s true identities, the two agree to keep them a secret while fostering a special friendship.

4. Fruits Basket

Handsome love interests abound in Fruits Basket. This supernatural-romantic anime centers on the innocent Tohru Honda who gets enmeshed with the dark dealings of the Sohma clan, a family possessed by the animals of the zodiac sign. When the orphaned Tohru ends up living with them, her pure and good heart helps the members of the Sohma family heal from old yet deeply traumatic wounds.

5. Kaguya Sama: Love Is War

Want more of a fun and entertaining watch? Look to Kaguya Sama: Love Is War for your daily fix. Seemingly perfect for each other, the relationship of student council president Miyuki Shirogane and vice president Kaguya Shinomiya, is the object of their schoolโ€™s gossip mill. Both ridiculously competitive and egotistic, the two turn their rumored romance into a competition on who can make the other โ€œconfessโ€ first, through inventive schemes thatโ€™ll keep any viewer on the edge of their seat.

6. More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers

Jiro Yakuin and Akari Watanabe are complete opposites who also happen to be repulsed by one another. Their worst nightmare happens when theyโ€™re forced to act like a married couple for a school project. When they find out that they can switch partners if theyโ€™re graded high enough, the two come to a stalemate and agree to work together instead so they can eventually pair up with their respective crushes.
