Argostoli is that capital of Kefalonia which has a beautiful busy Port that sees many cruise liners in the peak season. It is approximately 7Km from the Airport. The island has eight municipalities, Argostoli, Sami, Palikis, Ellios-Pronnon, Erisos, Pylaros, Livathos and Ithaca and the Community of Omala.

Kefalonia was the island chosen for filming the Hollywood movie Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. Which was on the beach of Antisamos, near Sami.

The Island has a real mixture of scenery, from rustic mountain landscapes to sandy beaches. The highest mountain on the Island is Mount Ainos, with an elevation of 1,628 metres (5,341 ft) that is a protected nature reserve and has rare tree species. Every year the mountain gets a healthy dusting of snow that looks spectacular.

Kefalonia is blessed with stunning beaches. The most famous being Myrtos, with its mixture of dark and light blue coloured water and its crisp white sand, it really is a sight to see! Skala’s beach is very long giving everyone that piece of privacy they want. Skala has beautifully clear water and golden sand that is safe for the whole family.

The Island has hidden gems all over one being Melissani Cave. The cave is 40 metres wide and 36 metres high. You have to walk down some stairs to get to the little boats that waits to take you around the cave. The water is a mesmerising turquoise colour that not even photoshop could handle.

Kefalonia is a family Island that isn’t spoilt by lots of well- known brands and has the added bonus of 300 days of sunshine. Its natural beauty seduces people that return year after year to get their yearly dose of Kefalonia.
