Max,
or "Maxi" is my adopted Pionus parrot. He was around fourteen when I got
him, but we (me and his old owner) are not sure of his birth date. But
he is close to sixteen years old, middle aged for a parrot of his species.
He should live to around thirty.
Maxi loves to talk. He talks in the shower, when I feed him, when I
come home, when he steps up onto my shoulder. His favorite thing in the
world to say is "Gimme a kiss!" then proceed to make a big, sloppy, wet
kissy noise. His old owner had a cat named buttons and he calls for her
all the time by going "Buuuutons! C'mere Buttons!". And he calls for his
old owners daughter all the time by yelling "STEEEEEPH!" (for
Stephanie). Some other things he likes to say are "Hi Max!", "Watcha
doin", "Pretty boy", "Maxieeee", and "Come on Max!" He also loves to
make crunch noises whenever I eat, makes water noises whenever I turn on
any faucet, he makes a door-knocking noise, wolf whistles, and makes a
myriad of other household noises.
Max loves to sit on my shoulder, but he will bite the heck out of my
hands if I try to get him to step up on them. You also can't put your
fingers in his cage or he will try to chew them off. I don't know his
history so I'm not sure why this is. But we have an understanding, and
we love each other no matter how many times he tries to gnaw off my
fingertips!
